Over 400 migrant care workers stage musical protest with Aṣa’s ‘Jailer’ to challenge UK visa rules

More than 400 migrant care workers have staged a musical protest outside the UK Labour Party Conference, singing Nigerian singer Aṣa’s hit song ‘Jailer’ to challenge visa rules they say expose them to exploitation.

The protesters are demanding the freedom to change employers without risking their immigration status, as well as the retention of the five-year route to permanent residency.

Using the song to amplify their concerns, the workers called for greater freedom, fair treatment and dignity, arguing that existing restrictions leave them vulnerable to exploitation.

The demonstration drew attention to the challenges faced by migrant care workers and their demands for changes to immigration policies affecting their employment and long-term residency in the UK.
